The Best How To Sing Course

in Course

For most of us, hiring a private voice coach to help us improve our singing voice is out of the question. After all, these guys can charge as high as 150 USD for just a half hour of their time. While their lessons are without doubt worth this much, it is more realistic to purchase a how to sing course on CD or DVD. But, which is the best how to sing course?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of vocal coaches who have produced singing lessons on CD or DVD. The two premier coaches that tower above the others are Per Bristow and Brett Manning. Both have created outstanding courses that are designed to help anyone, from a novice to a professional singer improve his/her voice and range.

Of the two, Per Bristow's course, Sing with Freedom, is the best for the average person. His course is provided on DVDs so that one can not hear what he has to say, but see the proper way to stand, hold the head, and other technical aspects of creating one's own, unique singing voice.

In addition, Bristow takes a very different approach to singing than Manning. Manning's course contains 12 CDs with an array of vocal exercises that will help a person become a better technical singer. Bristow focuses more on helping one find his/her singing voice and become comfortable singing in any situation. He believes that the more technical parts of singing, such as singing in key, will take care of themselves as one relaxes and becomes more comfortable singing naturally.

It is also Bristow's belief that learning to release one's inhibitions that hold him/her back from singing with a full voice and enjoyment of the experience will help students to live happier, fuller lives. This is a benefit above and beyond the scope of simple music lessons, but it is an ambitious goal on Per's part that is fulfilled by far more students than not.

DVD Singing Format

The DVD format makes the Bristow course feel more interactive than Manning's CDs. While it is not the same as having Per right there guiding one through the lessons, it feels closer to a private lesson with a world class vocal coach when one can see as well as hear him. This is another feature that makes this course superior to all the competition out there. It is easier to relax and follow the flow of the lesson when one can see what is happening and how the coach is demonstrating techniques than when one must listen to the instructions and hope he/she is following them properly.
